Solus is an independent film collective and platform for film-makers working in Super-8mm / 16mm and DV. It has the dual aim of showing Irish short and avant-garde films abroad and international short and avant-garde films in Ireland. We curate programmes which screen with international partners and collaborators on an ongoing basis.

We are happy to announce that the third and final installment of this year's Solus tour - covering USA, Russia and Ireland - will be taking place in Filmbase in Dublin on Tuesday September 9th. We will be sharing this event with old friends and collaborators EFS, who also feature strongly in our Russian program from earlier this year.

An Evening of Experimental Film With Solus Film Collective & Experimental Film Society

For this final installment we will be presenting the premiere of Masha Godovannaya's film 'Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear'. Masha co-curated the second installment of the tour, which screened in the Etaghi Gallery in Saint Petersburg earlier this summer. She has been a long time Solus collaborator and her work also featured in the first tour installment, the program curated by Moira Tierney for the New Orleans screening.

'Revisiting Solaris', Deimantas Narkevicius, 2007

Tinklai International Short Film Festival, in collaboration with Solus Film Collective and the Irish Film Institute, presents a selection of short documentaries and experimental films from Lithuania. The programme showcases a cross section of Lithuanian experimental cinema from the previous 30 years. It will be presented by Arturas Javdokimovas, film producer and director of the Tinklai Festival in Lithuania. 'In The Mouth Of The Volcano' is a reference to the condition of Lithuanian experimental filmmakers:

Solus are currently developing the ‘Trans-siberian Film Tour’, which brings Eastern European and Russian films to Ireland and new Irish experimental programmes to Lithuania, St.Petersburg and later into Korea and Japan in 2012. This Darklight and Greenpoint programmes ( below ) provide the backbone for the outgoing arm of the Trans-siberian tour. The incoming arm of this tour begins with the following programme.

The Solus Irish / Arabian avant-garde film tour brings the work of over 20 filmmakers and artists from Muslim, Arabic speaking countries to 8 venues around Ireland in autumn 2009, running concurrently with the screening of work by 15 emerging and established Irish/international filmmakers in 3 North African and Middle Eastern venues.

Solus has been operating since 1998, and has provided programmes of short and experimental films for international exhibition in New York, St. Petersburg, Marseilles, Mauritania, Trinidad, Cairo and Luxor.

In 2009 Solus produced the 'Irish / Arabian avant-garde film tour' which brought the work of over 20 filmmakers and artists from Muslim, Arabic speaking countries to 8 venues around Ireland, running concurrently with the screening of work by 15 emerging and established Irish/international filmmakers in 3 North African and Middle Eastern venues.
For D.E.A.F. Dublin Electronic Arts Festival in 2008 / 2009 Solus curated programmes of new shorts from the Balkans, North Africa, Egypt and U.S.A.

For 2010 and 2011 similar touring programmes of new Russian and Korean work are in development
